Don’t be That Friend

don't be that friend header

Most of us have that person in our life that is perfectly pleasant in many respects, but just can’t seem to quit when enough is enough. They will support you, but then continually offer unsolicited opinions on what you need to do. And just won’t stop, ever.

Maybe this person is your boss. You love your job. You enjoy the challenge. But, every day your boss picks at every little thing you so. He or she claims to be happy with your work, but then keeps micromanaging everything you do, to the point that you learn to hate your job.

You get the picture. Someone in your life who makes an enjoyable activity something you come to dread or even hate.

I work with lots of adult amateur riders and find they all work hard to support their passion for riding, but sometimes, this eagerness to improve can go too far. They desperately want to provide their horse with the best and to form that deep, deep partnership. But, from the horse’s point of view, they are “that friend”.

Do you get greedy and keep riding long after the required task has been mastered? Do you fail to notice that your horse has responded and continue aiding? Do you drill tasks?

The likelihood is that you do. We all have. But try to catch yourself and stop. Give them praise when they have followed your direction, and then leave them alone. Quit nagging.

If your horse has finished the task you asked them to do, just scratch them on the neck and dismount. Job well done.

  41. THE HORSE IS THE BEST FREIND FOR HUMAIN

  42. I’m sure I have done that before sadly. But my horse and I, we know each other so well that with one look I know to stop or get down and we ever go on walks along side of each other like an old married couple in the park, or she will nip my ankle when I am in pain as a reminder that I’m doing too much to myself, (I have some health issues these days). It is amazing the relationship you can have with our horses and it is so much more than one can explain in a reply .
